![]() While Studio Ghibli may not be doing an adaptation of Tolkien's works anytime soon, there is actually an anime on the way called The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. The studio also has a proven track record when it comes to the art of storytelling, making an anime Lord of the Rings an even more exciting proposition. While Tolkien's novels got a somewhat lackluster theatrically-released animated movie adaptation in 1978 (in addition to two other animated TV movies around the same time), Studio Ghibli would likely bring the story to life with an entirely different animation style. The story of Lord of the Rings also involves a lot of magic, especially from the likes of Gandalf and Saruman, and this magic would likely translate well to an animated medium that can further stylize different incantations and effects. Tropes featured in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum include: Call-Back: In the later half of the game, present-day Gollum is under guard in an Elven garden. In Tolkien's original novels, the story is in part about the power of ordinary folk to do great deeds, with the main heroes of the story being a group of small Hobbits. What's more, the themes of The Lord of the Rings essentially make it a universal tale that is impactful regardless of the medium.
